About Opera Grand Rapids' First Permanent Home
For more than 42-years Opera Grand Rapids has wandered from empty storefronts, to office suites to rehearse its productions. The Company's first permanent home is located on the corner of E. Fulton and Carlton, at 1320 East Fulton.
The 2.5 Million dollar project will be named after Betty Van Andel, who was a member of the Opera Grand Rapids Board of Trustees from 1981 to 1990. In 2001, the Jay and Betty Van Andel Foundation awarded Opera Grand Rapids a 1 Million dollar gift to jumpstart the building project. The long awaited Betty Van Andel Opera Center will be the first LEED certified opera center in the country, and houses a rehearsal hall, costume shop and offices.
