The Opera Grand Rapids Betty Van Andel Scholarship
Named in memorial tribute to Betty Van Andel and inspired by her lifelong passion for music and her many contributions to Opera Grand Rapids, both as a board member and benefactor, the Betty Van Andel Scholarship seeks to continue Betty Van AndelĂs vision of promoting music education and encouraging music students from our community in their studies and development as artists.

Each year the Betty Van Andel Scholarship provides an award up to $1,000 to an exceptional music student from the greater Grand Rapids area for payment of tuition and fees required for enrollment or attendance at an educational institution, or for books, supplies, or equipment required for his or her course of instruction.  To ensure that the award serves this purpose, funds awarded are provided directly to the recipientĂs educational institution.

Requirements
  1. Be a student dedicated to the pursuit of music or music education.
  2. Be a resident of Greater Grand Rapids or neighboring communities.
  3. Submit a letter(s) of recommendation testifying to your musical proficiency and qualifications at the time of application.
  4. Submit a letter describing the educational program for which you are seeking the scholarship.
  5. Be prepared for a personal interview by the Scholarship Committee, if requested.
  6. Submit a completed application and above requested materials to the Opera Grand Rapids office by March 5, 2011, before 5:00 p.m.

  1. Recipients of this scholarship must meet all eligibility requirements.
